The Pasture
Robert Frost's poem "The Pasture" (1910) is the literary inspiration driving this design-led thesis investigation.
"I’m going out to clean the pasture spring; I’ll only stop to rake the leaves away (And wait to watch the water clear, I may): I sha’n’t be gone long.—You come too."
— Robert Frost
This thesis explores how literary narrative design strategies can be applied to the built environment, emphasising the natural environment as a crucial component of the broader landscape. This design-led investigation aimed to examine ways to present the built and natural realms as dynamic participants in a larger environmental system. It proposes an architectural solution for a self-sustainable working dairy farm, blending realism and speculation to heighten public awareness of the pastoral identity of dairy farms.
